Lab 3: Composition
Introductions
In today’s lab we will be setting type, preparing for a collaborative pamphlet/zine that we will be printing next week. If you choose to use letterpress as part of your final book project, you will be able to choose your type (wood and/or metal), your line length, your spacing, and what image cuts to incorporate. In order to produce a book with 24 people in two weeks during our lab time, however, you will be operating within certain constraints:
- You will work in pairs to compose one page. You have 24 points, or about 4 inches, inches of vertical space in total for your page.
- You will use 20 point leading and one of the fonts we have set out for the lab.
- You can compose both of your chosen definitions of “book” from the prompt stage of your final book assignment, but this may prove too long. You could abbreviate both of your definitions to fit, or come up with a version that combines/summarizes your definitions. Whatever choice you make has to fit in the space defined in #1.
- You should fill out one of Skeuomorph’s Press’ job forms, including your name, the class, and the font you are using (both the drawer number and name). This will help us redistribute once we have printed the job.
